Initial Ideas

Logo Design and ideas

When it came to designing my logo, I wanted to use something eye-catching that looked unique and professional. I decided to name my production company "dark peach productions" as I tend to write and film subjects that are morally dark. I added the word "peach" because I thought the two words worked well together, and work in a slightly ying yang form.

My initial logo design was going to include the mythological symbol for 'dark' inside the outline of a peach. I then changed the design to include my star sign (capricorn) to make it more personal.

Inspiration for my narrative

The inspiration behind my narrative simply came from statistics on suicide, and the increase of posts on Tumblr talking about suicide, self harm, eating disorders, and romanticising death. I realised that although Tumblr had created so much awareness for mental health and other sensitive issues, it had helped connect people that were suffering from similar issues, but from this it helped to create a new stigma that only teenage white girls got depressed or committed suicide. I knew already that it was much more likely for teenage boys and girls from different cultures to commit suicide. So i wanted to make a point of this and help open peoples eyes to the bigger picture, that everyone can suffer from mental illness, and not a certain type of person commits suicide.

Rough plan of my narrative

Exploring outlets for teens/young adults experiencing mental illness

A big part of my sketchbook was finding a few artists i personally listen to, and using some of their lyrics to showcase why teenagers would find release by listening to them, and how they made teenagers feel like their pain was acknowledged. I used bands such as Nirvana and Marilyn Manson as examples. I've decided to explore only certain aspects of suicide/mental illness for my narrative, mainly focusing on teenagers, and different varieties of people. I feel like suicide is such a complex subject matter, that it would make sense to focus on one part for now.

Creating an animatic using final cut pro

A important part of creating my 30 second narrative involved using images and audio to create an animatic on final cut pro to get an idea of what my finished narrative will look like. I made two, the first one being a very simple animatic using images i had turned into outlines using Photoshop. I felt as if this animatic did not reveal enough of my idea for it to make sense. So I moved on and went to the location I am planning to film in, took photos of a friend and myself, created a storyboard and figured out the lighting and shots. From this I was then able to piece all these images together, find audio from you tube that I was planning to use in the actual narrative, and create a realistic animatic that portrayed my idea in a better light.

MOOD BOARD

I made a mood board for my 30 second narrative. I tried to capture the main aspects of my narrative (Train station, mental illness, suicide, and suicide in different ethnicities.) I may print it out for my sketchbook but I would like to find more images if i do.
